Kids Craft: Bottle Bird Haven

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Empty plastic bottle
  • Scissors or utility knife
  • Nail file
  • Paint, paintbrushes
  • Drill and drill bit
  • Twine, 2 feet

Note: Adult help and supervision are required for several steps.

1. (Adult) Using scissors or a utility knife, cut the plastic bottle into three pieces.

2.  Remove the middle section. Cut a circle into the front of the bottom section. Use a nail file to smooth rough edges.

3. Paint the bottle sections as desired. Let them dry completely between coats. Decorate the bottle with painted embellishments as desired.

4. (Adult) Drill a hole in the top of the lid and the two upper sides of the bottom section.

5. Fold the twine in half and thread both ends through the cap, leaving a loop. Thread both ends through the top section. Screw the cap on. Tie each end of twine through the hole in the side of the bottom section. Cut off excess twine.

6. Hang in a tree. Leave empty for birds to use as a nest or place birdseed in the bottom to use it as a feeder.
