A sunny spring day in Kansas is made for exploring, and there’s no shortage of family-friendly attractions, from places that promise animal interactions to movie-themed moments.

Field Station: Dinosaurs
2999 N. Rock Rd, Derby

Calling all paleontologists! Like a scene from prehistoric times, Field Station: Dinosaurs is unlike anything you’ve seen in Kansas. The 10-acre theme park features walking trails winding amongst 40 towering animatronic reptiles. View a lively amphitheater show (audience participation encouraged!), dig for fossils and attempt to find the Raptor Maze's hidden velociraptors before ending the tour at the gift shop.

Afterward, putt your way to a win at Jurassic Golf, an 18-hole miniature golf course included with adult or child day pass admission to the park.

“There’s no place like home!” At Dorothy’s House and The Land of Oz, visitors take a guided tour of the famous Kansan’s house and walk through an immersive indoor maze leading to Oz. A reenactor dressed as Dorothy tells the harrowing tale of surviving a tornado as the wind whips and the thunder booms. Follow her along the yellow brick road as she interacts with each movie character.

Museum visitors gain access to a room featuring memorabilia and actual props used during the filming of the Academy Award-winning movie. A kid’s playground and on-site sculpture walk add to the appeal.
