Healthy Valentine’s Day Treats

Easy, quick treats that won’t leave you with a sugar crash

Feb. 14 signifies a day of love, giving and for most, a sugar rush. Valentine’s Day is typically celebrated by gifting loved ones with a variety of sweet treats that can leave you feeling sluggish. While there is plenty of room in a healthy diet to enjoy a few pieces of chocolate, adding in a healthy treat can help keep sugar crashes at bay. Try these recipes that are festive, delicious and pack extra nutrients without sacrificing flavor.

Before getting started, here is a tip to keep in mind:

Yogurt, used in both healthy recipes below, in some cases can have nearly as much sugar as traditional Valentine’s Day candy. Milk products naturally have sugar, plus many brands add sugar to make the product sweeter. Try reading the nutrition label to choose a product with limited added sugar. Greek yogurt is also good choice due to the higher amounts of protein, which can help keep you full and satisfied.
