Easy Apple Crostata

Ingredients

1 refrigerated pie crust

1/2 cup granulated sugar

4 tsp. cornstarch

2 tsp. cinnamon

1/4 tsp. nutmeg

4 medium Gala apples, cored, peeled and thinly sliced

1 tsp. granulated sugar

Caramel sauce, vanilla bean ice cream and cinnamon, for serving

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 450 F.

Unroll the pie crust onto a sheet of parchment paper. Use a rolling pin to roll it out just slightly. Slide the parchment paper with the crust onto a large, rimmed baking sheet.

In mixing bowl, add sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add the sliced apples and toss gently to combine.

Spoon apple mixture onto center of the prepared crust, spreading it out to within two inches of edge. The apples will be mounded high but this will flatten as the apples cook down.

Fold the pie crust edge over the filling to form a two-inch border, pleating the crust with your fingers as you work your way around.

Use a silicone basting brush to brush the crust edge with a bit of water; sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of sugar.

Bake the crostata, uncovered, on the center oven rack for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender when gently pierced with a fork.

Serve the crostata warm, drizzled with warm caramel sauce and topped with vanilla bean ice cream; garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
