A school building turned bar, Old School Tap House & Social, opened in Kechi four years ago. The bar serves more than 20 craft beers, specialty cocktails and wine. Dangling Edison lightbulbs, dark-painted walls and wood-topped tables transform the building into a moody lounge atmosphere. The inviting space is ideal for happy hour board games or savoring nachos ordered from the permanent food truck from Tuesday through Sunday.

An expansive tree-covered patio allows patrons to mingle while enjoying views of a meandering creek — dogs are welcome.

Celebration Barn and Schoolhouse Inn
Clay Center

The Schoolhouse Inn_Clay CenterImagine ringing the bell at a one-room schoolhouse to announce you’ve arrived to stay overnight at the vacation rental. Schoolhouse Inn sits on private property on the edge of Clay Center.

Restored hardwood floors lead to an open living room decorated with farmhouse decor. Original chalkboards carved with students’ initials remain. Two bedrooms with queen-sized beds and a full bathroom with toiletries ensure guests enjoy a comfortable stay. Sipping coffee from an oversized chair near the electric fireplace completes the peaceful experience.

somerset_schoohouse_ashleystuteville.pngSomerset Schoolhouse, a one-room building built in 1920, is a must-have experience destination from Thursday through Sunday. Visitors can chat over a glass of whiskey, shop the boutique for hand-selected items sourced from Kansas and Missouri artisans or sip an espresso martini at the coffee bar. Feeling hungry? Order shareable charcuterie or flatbreads to nosh on.

Monthly events include book and whiskey clubs, each reservable online. Art and cookie decorating classes continue the tradition of learning. Special events like Derby Day and an ‘80s prom-themed Murder Mystery night attract attendees dressed in whimsical attire.
