Coronado Heights Castle
Just northwest of Lindsborg, travel along gravel roads to visit the spectacular Coronado Heights Castle. Atop a hill sits a beautiful castle overlooking the vast Kansas skies.
Spanish conquistador Francisco Vázquez de Coronado was on a large expedition between 1540 and 1542 from Mexico to present-day Kansas. According to sources, he was hoping to find the Seven Cities of Gold. According to legend, the seven cities of gold referred to Aztec mythology revolving around the Pueblos of the Spanish Nuevo México, today's New Mexico and Southwestern United States. However, the seven cities of gold were a myth, and Coronado returned to Mexico.
The castle now welcomes visitors to explore the area, enjoy a beautiful day for a picnic and familiarize themselves with the yucca and sumac plants and occasional lizards that may appear.
Lovers of Lindsborg may disagree that Lindsborg isn't one of those "cities of gold."
