Kids Craft: Raindrop Mobile
Put a little spring in your step with a pretty painting with the help of cotton swabs
YOU WILL NEED:
• Several crayons in different shades of blue
• Waxed paper
• Embroidery hoop or cardboard circle rim
• White paper for clouds
• Thread
• Scissors, butter knife, iron, glue, needle
STEPS:
1. Wrap the hoop with thread, crisscrossing over and over to create a web where you can hang the raindrops. Secure the thread edges with glue.
2. Cut cloud shapes out of white paper. Glue on outside edge of hoop.
3. Unwrap the crayons. With an adult’s help, use scissors or a butter knife to cut the crayons into small pieces. (This can get messy!) Spread pieces onto a sheet of waxed paper. Cover with a second sheet of waxed paper.
4. Have an adult press a warm iron onto the waxed paper to melt the crayons. If crayon pieces get close to the edge, they may melt onto your iron, so be careful to keep the crayons well inside the edges of the waxed paper. Let cool.
5. Cut raindrop shapes out of the melted crayon. Poke a hole in the top with a needle and pull thread through. Using the thread, tie raindrops from the crisscross threads in the hoop, at various lengths.
6. Hang and enjoy your raindrop mobile!
