End Hunger Food Drive Makes Big Impact in Kansas
Counties across the state collaborated with their Farm Bureau Financial Services (FBFS) partners to take part in an initiative to combat hunger and make a positive impact on their community. The initiative from Oct. 18 through Nov. 15, 2023, was an effort to engage in a friendly competition between counties to gather the most food donations in pounds per Farm Bureau member.
In less than a month, the 35 participating counties gathered nearly 26,000 pounds of food. The winning county, Montgomery County Farm Bureau, and FBFS agent Anna Lawless, brought in more than 6,600 pounds of food — which equaled more than four pounds of food per Montgomery County Farm Bureau member.
“We are so excited about this win,” says Kathy O’Brien, the Montgomery County Farm Bureau coordinator. “It was truly an all-hands-on-deck approach, and we are so proud to give back to our community in a meaningful, important way.”
The Montgomery County Farm Bureau teamed up with their FBFS agent to make a bigger impact on their community.
“We make a great team in Montgomery County,” Lawless says. “It was only natural to work together on providing for our community. The big win for us is being able to provide resources to all the food banks in our area — some of which don’t receive government funding.”
Montgomery County Farm Bureau members not only won big for their community, but they also received a special tailgate experience and tickets to the Iowa State University vs. Kansas State University football game on Nov. 25. They received on-field recognition for their efforts, and thousands of Wildcat fans heard the impact of the End Hunger Food Drive.
