Currently, there are 12 community kitchens across Kansas. These food facilities provide multiple uses for individuals and food-business startups. The cost of using a community kitchen can be much lower than a renovation or building or renting a facility. Many community kitchens have commercial equipment that might be cost-prohibitive for a small startup. For cottage-food businesses (foods made at home for sale directly to the consumer), the community kitchen provides a separation from personal-use kitchens.
