The Volland Store in Alma is hosting "Kansas Farmers, Ranchers and You." The exhibit features photographs from the book Kansas Farmer by Scott Stebner, an agricultural photographer who specializes in taking powerful and captivating photographs of those who make a living off the land.

Having grown up around livestock and spending seven years as an agricultural educator, Stebner is drawn to documenting visually the life, culture, and events of American agriculture at the local level.  He received his bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and earned his master’s degree in agricultural communications from Kansas State University.

As world population increases so does the need for food.   Famers and ranchers are acutely aware of the importance of providing enough food for the world.

For them, growing food is not just a job; it is a serious and noble undertaking.

Consumers are ever more focused on food and where it comes from, how it is grown.  Rural and urban needs and interests coalesce around food.  The exhibit and sister events at the Volland Store will provide an opportunity for people from rural and urban areas to explore these issues together, to meet and discuss, ask questions, and learn.
