American Royal

Details

The American Royal World Series of Barbecue® is often referred to as the “most pristine” barbecue competition in the world. Now in its 38th year, the contest will be held over Labor Day weekend at the Kansas Speedway.

The American Royal brings in more than 550 competitors, including some of the best pitmasters from around the world, and has been highlighted on both the Travel Channel’s “Best BBQ Festivals and Competitions” and Delish. com’s “Best Barbecue Festivals in America.”

The event includes both an invitational competition and an open competition and is highly competitive, so the judging is not left to just any taste buds.

“In the invitational contest, the judges must be certified with the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS),” says Emily Park, event manager. “KCBS has a very large volume of judges and members. They have been a great partner to work with in hosting this contest every year.”

This festival also includes a Kids Que competition to keep youth entertained. The Cowtown Family Fun Fest gives families an additional place to explore during the barbecue contest.
