In Kansas, some of the highest quality coffee is roasted in rural towns at small-batch roasters. Coffee roasting is an artisanal process requiring precision, resulting in unique flavor notes in every sip.

Owner Ashley Williams discovered his love of coffee during missionary trips in Honduras. His passion for sourcing responsibly grown, hand-picked coffee beans culminated in farming and harvesting beans for his Kansas-based operation, Legacy Farms Coffee. He flies to Honduras four times a year.

If coffee drinkers are unsure which variety to select from two dozen varieties, Williams suggests starting with El Gringo, a medium roast with caramel and citrus tasting notes. Flavored coffees such as Southern Pecan or Caramel Rum Crunch are also available. Customers can buy coffee beans, coffee pods and cold brew kits in-store at the farm or request shipping within the United States.

Alchemy Coffee Werks
Augusta

A passion for roasting coffee beans in 2002 grew into a flourishing business for the owners of Alchemy Coffee Werks. Roasting for more than 20 years, the family-run operation has “cracked the code to unlocking the soul of each bean.” They believe the perfect cup of coffee starts with carefully selecting the best specialty and organic beans.

Owner Curtis Dunning attended Specialty Coffee Association classes to learn the intricacies of roasting. For example, the Alchemist Blend, which uses Brazilian and Mexican coffee beans, is ideal for daily drinkers, while Peru Organic’s mellow acidity is a popular choice due to its caramel and butterscotch almond notes. The coffee is sold at more than 25 retailers, churches and coffee shops. Online customers can request shipping to any United States address.

Buckskin Road Coffee Roastery
Inman

About eight years ago, Layne and Shanda Ensz began roasting coffee beans in their garage. Now, their craft-roasted beans are roasted in a renovated and licensed barn facility, Buckskin Road Coffee Roastery. They source most of its coffee beans from Walker Coffee Trading in Texas, and when possible, they also order beans from Collaborative Origins Imports. A 20-pound fluid-bed roaster produces rich, bright and nuanced flavors for varieties like Auld Lang Syne Blend and Bowhunter’s Blend.

Customers can purchase Buckskin Road Coffee Roastery’s coffee beans online and at retail stores across Central Kansas. They are happy to ship whole beans by the bag or single-serve pods within the United States. Shoppers at the roastery will also see coffee bar supplies available for sale, ranging from measuring spoons to kettles.
