Kansas Christmas Gifts

A From the Land of Kansas gift box is the perfect gift for both the giver and the receiver

Skip the long lines, crowds and dull gifts this holiday season by shopping local — from the comfort of your own home.

Kansas Department of Agriculture’s trademark program, From the Land of Kansas, is offering two holiday gift boxes featuring Kansas-made products you can purchase with a simple “click” at shop.fromthelandofkansas.com.

The program’s overall mission is to support businesses that grow, produce, process or manufacture products in Kansas by promoting its members’ products and providing business development opportunities. The holiday gift boxes are a great way to give people a taste of Kansas.

“We wanted to have a spread of products from all over to get the best representation of the state,” Lexi Wright, program coordinator, says.

Perhaps the best part of the gift box is the array of products inside that can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone who receives this gift.

“We had one customer approach us and say, ‘We have a family rule that whatever gift you give, it must be useable. It can’t just sit on a shelf,’” Janelle Dobbins, marketing manager for From the Land of Kansas, says. “This is a great gift because it’s consumable and people use what’s in the box.”

Last year, 40 percent of the gift boxes sold were shipped out of state, with Hawaii being the furthest away.

“Customers love sending these to friends and families who were once Kansas residents,” Wright says. “But they’re great for current residents, too.”

Based in Newton, Prairie Harvest is a full-line food market that features locally sourced produce and meats. They also offer a wide selection of Kansas-made products, which made them a natural fit for assembling the gift boxes.

Each gift box is crafted to display the items inside as an exciting reveal to its recipient. In the box, each item has the history of its company and where it came from. Senders can also add a personalized gift message and determine when the package will arrive. There is also a card inside that thanks the recipient for supporting Kansas companies.

“A lot of the products in our program make great gifts,” Wright says. “They speak to what the Kansas business is about — their passion for agriculture and for their products. We showcase that in a way that makes people see these products as gifts anyone can enjoy.”

Shopping at a small business helps provide jobs for the community and puts money into the local economy.

“This is the 40th year of the From the Land of Kansas program, which is why we are especially excited for this opportunity to share Kansas-made products with people throughout the U.S.,” Dobbins says.

To guarantee delivery by Dec. 25, your order must be placed by Dec. 10. If you are ordering more than 10 gift boxes, please call 785-564-6759 to ensure delivery by the holidays.
